Show Off
Well, it seems like every time we turn around, Anna has a new trick. She *loves* to climb what ever she can.
The other night, she surprised us by deciding to climb up on the mantle.

It's always surprising to me that she just knows how to do things. She rarely face-plants and always seems to have good control of her limbs.

Oak, Oak and More Oak: Our Latest Project
Well, my dear husband has done it again. Gotten the itch for a project. These usually turn out well, so, well, here we go!
Our kitchen is heavy on the oak.
We know new cabinets would cost more than we want to invest in the kitchen of this house, so we don't want to do that. But we would love a little less oak.

Michael came across a new product recently. Rustoleum Cabinet Transformations is supposed to make refinishing the cabinets do-able. Less expensive than new cabinets, of course, and also a step up from painted cabinets. He has been dying to try it, so the other day he came home with this...

...and went to work.
We decided to start in the bathroom, where we have the same cabinets as are in the kitchen, as a sort of "test patch."
We chose a white-ish color, since a new wood tone would require figuring out what to do with the floor and other oak (it's everywhere!)
He first used a stripper, then painted the cabinets:
When that was finished, we added a glaze that looks, in the opinion of several who've visited since, a "vintage french country" look.

The final result went from this:

to this:
this:
to this:
What do you think? Better than the oak? Or too taste-specific?
We're going to dip our foot one more time and do the island:
Wish us luck!

Pooh and Her First Halloween
Halloween around our house was lots of fun this year!
Anna's dad picked out a costume for her and we finagled her into it.
Then, posed her with the appropriate props. :)
Later, she and her cousin the K-State football player took some photos together...

Before heading home to greet the trick-or-treaters!
