First Mother's Day!

Catching up! A couple photos from my first Mother's Day. It was glorious and I am blessed.

30 Weeks

This girl turned 30 weeks...

And celebrated in a new dress from her GiGi...and with a mouthful of blocks.

One Day

One day, I'll tell her about the great-grandpas she never knew.

One day, I'll tell her what a hero is.

One day, I'll explain how her Great Grandpa K fought for freedom at a place called Iwo Jima.
How her Great Grandpa G was a night-fighter.

One day, I'll explain to her what the Pacific Theater was. How her Great Grandpa W witnessed many of his comrades drown there.

One day, I will teach her the Pledge of Allegiance.

One day, I will take her to a Memorial Day service and we'll listen to Taps.

One day, I will explain to her what the military is and how the people in it are selfless and deserve the highest respect.

One day, I will tell her what it means to be an American. How the "American Way" is NOT "putting a boot in your a$$" rather it's respect for all, especially those who served (and serve).

One day, I will tell her how lucky she is to live in the land of the free and the home of the brave.

One day, she will realize these things are who she is and it is because of these things that she can be anything she wants to be.

One day, I hope she will grow into a proud, respectful American.

The Angst of Learning to Crawl

Early May brought Anna's 7th month and an unbridled passion for learning to CRAWL!

It's not easy to become mobile...

And she worked and worked and worked to get that bum in the air !

The effort brought shrieks of frustration...

but slowly she became more and more mobile...

...scooting and reaching to get what she wanted.

As we watched this, we became very, very aware that soon, she'd be on.the.move.
Gulp.

Jonesing for GranDan's Noodles

Back in March, when her GranDan visiting, I caught this little exchange. Anna trying to swoop in on his lunch.

Oak, Oak and More Oak: Our Latest Project

Well, my dear husband has done it again. Gotten the itch for a project. These usually turn out well, so, well, here we go!

Our kitchen is heavy on the oak.

We know new cabinets would cost more than we want to invest in the kitchen of this house, so we don't want to do that. But we would love a little less oak.

Michael came across a new product recently. Rustoleum Cabinet Transformations is supposed to make refinishing the cabinets do-able. Less expensive than new cabinets, of course, and also a step up from painted cabinets. He has been dying to try it, so the other day he came home with this...

...and went to work.

We decided to start in the bathroom, where we have the same cabinets as are in the kitchen, as a sort of "test patch."

We chose a white-ish color, since a new wood tone would require figuring out what to do with the floor and other oak (it's everywhere!)

He first used a stripper, then painted the cabinets:

When that was finished, we added a glaze that looks, in the opinion of several who've visited since, a "vintage french country" look.

The final result went from this:

to this:

this:
to this:
What do you think? Better than the oak? Or too taste-specific?

We're going to dip our foot one more time and do the island:

Wish us luck!

And those legs? Deliciously chubby.

Fat Baby's New Gig

This last week the little Miss started a new daycare.
And what do you do the first day of a new daycare?

Wear sequins, of course.
